San Paolo fuori le Mura (St. Paul outside the Walls) church, Rome. The church was started as early as 386 AD on the site of the memorial built by Emperor Constantine I over the burial place of St. Paul. Over time, the church underwent numerous restorations and rebuildings as it suffered more than once from enemy raids, earthquakes and fires (the fire of 1823 was especially destructive). Nevertheless, the building preserves its original structure, as well as the interior portion of the apse and the triumphal arch with the 5th century mosaics kept intact [August 5, 2013].
