Glass sculpture by Jaume Plensa
The piece is to commemorate the journalists killed in the course of carrying out their work. The piece also holds lines of a poem by James Fenton. At 10pm every evening, it is lit up and projects a beam of light into the sky for half an hour.
It was officially unveiled 16 June 2008 by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
The piece was selected following an international competition by the BBC.
